BREAKDOWN

ABOUT THE SHOW: Yanked from the edge of obscurity with a shepherd’s hook and the allure of dreams that only Tinseltown (or, in our case, Broadway) can crush, this selection of the best of the worst highlights the scraps off the cutting room floor, the discarded (and sometimes unfinished) works of The Great White Way’s most prolific writers. This series uncovers the leftover musical matter, by making the lost found again.

LOST & FOUND: The Unsung World of Frank Wildhorn is part power ballad, part rock anthem, and the kind of screlt-your-face-off cabaret that you always wished you could drag your straight boyfriend to.

LOST & FOUND began life as a digital concert series developed by director and homegrown theatre historian Bobby Traversa in association with Keane Productions as part of their innovative Backyard Bandshell initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic. Streaming out of a literal carport in Boyle Heights in Downtown Los Angeles, The Backyard Bandshell helped to create a safe and creative space for artists during a time where all conventional performance spaces had shuttered. Keane Productions is thrilled to bring one of its flagship productions to a live, in person audience for the very first time at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival!!! (Think 54 Below, but with sun glasses and a tan.)

DESCRIPTION

Summer 2025 is the year of 'Misunderstood Monsters' at Mythik Camps. Ever wondered what the Minotaur does in his downtime? Or where exactly Mothman came from? Is Medusa really a monster, or is she just misunderstood? Join us this summer as we explore the other side of the stories of iconic monsters from cultures around the world.

At Mythik Camps, with the help of talented performers like you, we bring ancient myths to life as modern, multicultural immersive stories for kids ages 7-12 to experience in a fun, outdoor summer camp environment. Each week of camp is a new Quest, and each Quest plunges campers into the center of the action as demigods trying to prove themselves as legendary heroes. Quest adventures are full of (foam) sword fights, magic spells and potions, puzzles to solve and negotiations to navigate as they journey to save the world from evil forces from the mythological world.

Director: Edward Gibbons-Brown
Location: New York City
Venue: Hudson Guild Theater (New York Theater Festival)
Contract: Non-Union/AEA Showcase Pending Approval
Paid: $300 Stipend

The Neighborhood Laundromat is a surreal new play about three strangers who find themselves trapped in a rundown LA laundromat following an earthquake - and possibly something stranger. To escape, they must confront personal failures, cycles of avoidance and long-buried truths.

At once absurd and heartfelt, the play explores estrangement, identity, and what it means to hit the reset button in your life - when there's nowhere left to run.

KEY DATES

- Table Read: Sunday May 11
- Rehearsals: May 19 - July 14 (tentatively Sundays & Wednesdays, final schedule TBD with cast availability)
- Tech Rehearsal: Monday July 14 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
- Performance Dates: Monday July 14 6:15PM - Friday July 18 9:00PM - Sunday July 20 3:30PM

All events take place in New York City. Please do not submit if you are unavailable for any of those dates.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION

- 40s to 50s
- Masc presenting
- Any ethnicity

JC is dry-witted, emotionally reserved, and quietly magnetic. The kind of person that doesn't say much, but when they do, it matters. An aging metahlead with a philosophical streak, JC anchors the surreal and increasingly metaphysical world of the play with grounded presence, dry humor and unexpected lyricism. He often speaks in poetic quotes from songs that carry emotional weight to him.

BREAKDOWN

CROOKED CROSS

SYNOPSIS: The story of the Kluger family, a typical middle class Bavarian family, facing the economic and political challenges of life in Germany in the 1930’s—specifically the 18 months between Christmas 1932 and June 1934. The heart of the play is a love story–Lexa Kluger is engaged to Moritz Weissmann, a Jewish doctor. Lexa’s brothers, Helmy and Erich are becoming increasingly involved with the Nazi party, grateful to have “a real job with a little pay at least.”

CROOKED CROSS is Sally Carson’s dramatization of her novel of the same name. The novel was published in 1934 and is being reissued April 2025, in England by Persephone Press (not available in U.S.). The play premiered in Birmingham (U.K.) in 1935 and was produced in London in 1937. The Times commended the young author: “She never preaches, or loses touch, through hate or prejudice, with the human beings she represents.”

SEEKING:

LEXA: Female, 22. Lexa may appear a little naïve, but she has great reserves of confidence and command mixed in with her strong sense of humour and deep emotional access. Self-aware and compelling. Plus, she likes to dance and have fun. Piano a plus.

HELMY: Male, 23. Helmy, the eldest Kluger child, but maybe the most innocent. He blushes easily. He is sincere, sensitive and sweet, but grows tougher over the course of the play, as he commits to his responsibilities and turns away from the family.

ERICH: Male, 20. Erich is blessed with charm, beauty and an infectious smile. He also has a surprising dark side, filled with bitterness and malice.

KLUGER: Male, 45-ish. The patriarch, a good sense of humor with a twinkle in his eye, going a little soft now, unlike his days of serving in the Great War, 20 years earlier.

FRAU KLUGER: female, 45-ish. A quiet, seemingly simple domestic woman, concerned only with the happiness of her children and husband. She wants to do the right thing, if it will make her children happy.

MORITZ WEISSMANN: late 20s. Moritz is intelligent, sensitive, well liked, humorous, humble, handsome. The author describes him as “not Jewish looking” and another character says he’s the “most eligible poor bachelor in Munich.”

PROFESSOR WEISMANN: 60-70. A distinguished-looking man, elegant under trying circumstances. His wife died in the last year, and there’s a certain resigned air of sadness about him.

OTTO: Male, early 20s. Otto is shy, well-meaning, and infatuated with Lexa. The author tells us he’s: “easily tongue tied and out of breath” while “it is important that he is not made to appear ridiculous.”

STORM TROOPER, ETC.: Male, 20s. Doubles as multiple parts, including a young Storm Trooper who has one strong dramatic scene.
